Unit Overview:
This unit builds on previous knowledge of geography to understand the causes and effects of European Exploration during the 16-18th centuries. Students will examine specific explorers, the Columbian Exchange, as well as positive and negative outcomes of exploration. Students will gain understanding through participation in group work, presentation, independent reading, class discussion, and creating a poster.
Personal Unit Overview: What did you achieve this unit?
I learned a lot more about how Europeans settled in America, I also learned a lot about a lot of different explorers and about their lives and what they discovered. Another new thing I learned was about how the Columbian Exchange and trade, I also learned about mercantilism and capitalism, this taught me about different ways governments can be run.
Enduring Understandings: How did European Exploration affect the world?
European Exploration affected the world because it allowed European countries to expand their land and cause new civilizations to start. The Europeans allowed America to become the way it is now because they took the land and made it their homes and the land there was rich in gold which made America rich. Europe was also affected greatly because they were able to use the new resources from America, this made the Europeans richer and have more resources. Africa was affected in a bad way because many Africans were taken to America to become slaves and that decreased the amount of people in Africa. Asia was affected because they were not able to trade much with Europe anymore because the Europeans already had all the resources they needed in America.
Area of strength: Which standard was your strength and why?
-
Interpret central ideas and provide an accurate summary of sources while demonstrating relationship among ideas.
-
I was able to summarize all the topics well because I was able to understand the topics.
Area of growth: Which standard needs improvement and how can you improve for the future?
-
Integrate visuals and/or data to demonstrate analysis.
-
I put images in my poster but they were not the most clear and may have not been very clear.
